When we came over to Melbourne 2 years back from Sydney, I recollected my fond memories I had over at this famed establishment, The Hardware Societe. The food experience was great, especially the famous baked eggs. And now we are back in Melbourne again…
We finally made it to the cute little french establishment which is at the end of the hardware lane. The thing that I was not excited was there was a endless queue just outside the cafe. So, we waited patiently for at least 30 minutes. Finally, we were called to our table.
Without hesitation, we perused the menu and started ordering the old time favourites like the Baked Eggs with Chorizo ($18) and I was eyeing on the Lobster Benedict ($25) which looked like a recent addition. The place was jam packed and people seemed happy to wait for tables. Thankfully the food arrived not long after making our orders.
Being an ardent fan of Egg Benedicts, I enjoyed this rendition of the Lobster Benedict. The eggs were poached to perfection. There were tasty and sweet morsels of lobsters meat with rich hollandaise sauce generously all over it. How I wish there were more chunks of lobsters meat though, as my Lobster Benedict did not come cheap. The brioche bun was made perfectly, sweet and buttery. Boy, am I full after consuming this delicious lobster benedict.
The baked eggs with chorizo was still a big hit. Layered in cheese and topped with almond silvers, the eggs were baked in a tasty spiced tomato broth with generous morsels of chorizo sausages and presented in a cute cast iron pot. The taste was simply awesome and pretty addictive. The olive oil infused bread that accompanied the dish was equally delicious, especially when dipped in the tasty delicious broth.
Overall, I think the place is worth the wait. Some of my friends who came here said the other dishes was equally yummy too. Also, I had tried other baked eggs in another popular cafe in Melbourne but was not as impressed at all. So, Hardware Societe has won us over to be one of their fans….
